SLC $$$$ will pay for up to 4 people per SLC school ($1000) to attend this NW Regional Education Lab training April 19-21.

All you need to do is register online, complete the Travel/Training Authorization for each person attending and send it to HS Reform.

Dear Smaller Learning Communities Grantees,

As SLC grantees, you have already embarked on a monumental change in the

ways that high schools traditionally operate. We are contacting you

about an exciting opportunity to participate in NWREL's Breaking Ranks

II training session here in Portland. Breaking Ranks II, developed by

the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the

Education Alliance at Brown University, is a powerful tool for all

secondary school leaders and leadership teams. It is a practical toolkit

for leading sustainable change towards academic improvement for all

students.

Its three core areas:

- Collaborative Leadership and Professional Learning Communities,

- Personalizing Your School Environment, and

- Relevant Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment

substantially support the kind of personalized, relevant learning

envirionments that SLC grantees are striving to create. This training

will introduce you to tools and strategies in Breaking Ranks II that you

can use within your school community to talk about, plan for, implement

and strengthen your SLC plan.

We hope that you will join us on April 19 & 20th. There is an

additional train-the-trainer session planned for April 21 which will

certify participants to train others in Breaking Ranks II strategies.

The fee for the two-day training is $250, for the three-day training

including the train-the-trainer session $300.

Breaking Ranks II outlines the need for high schools to engage in the process of change that will ensure success for every high school student. This training helps school leaders understand and implement the recommendations in Breaking Ranks II including:

·        leadership for change

·        the development of a professional learning community

·        the need to provide every student with meaningful adult relationships

·        the development of personalized learning, where students see their learning as meaningful, relevant, rigorous and challenging

Participants in the optional third day train-the-trainer session will be certified as Breaking Ranks II trainers, enabling them to lead training sessions for other school leaders.

Trainers from The Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory will lead this session. NWREL improves educational results for children, youth, and adults by providing research and development assistance in delivering equitable, high-quality educational programs.
